Installing the gantry. Remove the screws from the plywood end plates, remove the restraining bolt from the bottom of the gantry legs. Install gantry on table, with the V bearing riding on the guides. The gantry may come fully assembled, with all motors, and sprockets pre-installed Adjust table guides
Gantry ride can be improved by sanding
and lubing the guide lightly with a fine grit sandpaper. Next install the X drive belt. Move gantry to one end of the table. Begin on the side without motor, attach belt at the other end of table, with belt teeth side down, slide the belt under the holder plate on your belt wing, bring the belt down through the slot in the wing, and pull through to get 1 to 2 inches of belt on this end. Tighten bolts on this wing being careful not to cut belt by over tightening. Install belt under the first left idler sprocket, then up and over top cross drive sprocket down and under right idler sprocket. Attach belt to belt wing, the same as before, except pull this belt to tension (DO NOT over tension) your belt should be without slack, over tensioning will result in damage to your lower (idler sprocket) bolts This is best done by two people, have one person hold the belt, while the other uses two 7/16 inch wrenches to tighten the belt holder in place. On the motor side start by loosening the end “tensioning nut” (9/16 wrench) and the sprocket (1/8 inch Allen key) , on the cross drive, only on the motor side. Begin on the side with motor, attach belt at the other end of table, with belt teeth side down, slide the belt under the holder plate on your belt wing, bring the belt down through the slot in the wing, and pull through to get 1 to 2 inches of belt on this end. Tighten bolts on this wing being careful not to cut belt by over tightening. Install belt under the first right motor idler sprocket, then up and over motor drive sprocket down and under left motor idler sprocket, up and over cross drive sprocket then down and under last sprocket, secure to belt wing as before. Line up your gantry, by pulling the entire gantry all the way to one end of the table, until the gantry side plates are both in contact with the wing mounts of the table. Hold the
gantry in place, tighten the
end bolt on the cross drive, to tension the cross drive shaft
with very little pressure, tighten the
cross drive sprocket with a 1/8 inch Allen key The gantry will move from end to end with only the resistance of the motor itself, if any V bearings jump off track, try adjusting the riding guides first, if it is out of time repeat steps above. Place the gantry in the middle of the table, install the two (2) anti lift bearings in slot on gantry side plates. The gantry should be able to ride smoothly, if it binds on the rail, simply loosen the anti lift bearings. |
